Overview
Zinc and copper are considered essential trace minerals. Our Zinc is formulated with copper because it is important to take extra copper when using zinc for longer than a month, because zinc may interfere with copper absorption. Copper imbalances may lead to anemia and various other problems.
The zinc used in our Zinc Chelate comes from zinc arginate, zinc histidinate and zinc glycinate. The copper used comes from copper lysinate and copper glycinate.

Our Zinc 15mg is available in 60 and 120 vegetarian capsules.

Zinc Overview
Zinc is considered an essential trace mineral. It performs over 300 enzymatic functions in the body. Zinc is primarily stored in the muscles, bones and skin, with high concentrations in the retina of the eye, liver, kidneys, pancreas, bone, muscles and the prostate gland in men. It plays a role in virtually all biochemical pathways and physiological processes. Every cell in the body needs zinc; hundreds of body processes rely upon it. Zinc is needed for normal growth and development. It has been shown to help regulate a wide variety of immune system. Studies indicate that zinc may help to control blood sugar levels. In a small study conducted on children with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, zinc was found to have a positive effect on some symptoms. Additional studies show that zinc may be an important component of skin health. One of the first signs of zinc deficiency is a lost of taste and smell, elderly people and vegetarians have a greater risk of deficiency. The body does not manufacture zinc, so it is necessary to obtain it from external dietary sources.

Copper Overview
Copper is the third most abundant trace mineral in the body. It is an essential component of many enzymes and at least 15 proteins and helps the body function normally. It is involved in the production of collagen and elastin, and as such is essential to the structural integrity and elasticity of tissues, bones and organs. It is necessary for maintaining healthy nerves and joints. In addition, it is necessary for the production of hemoglobin, which transports oxygen throughout the body. Copper also aids in the production of energy by helping the body make adenosine triphosphate and is essential to the production of the enzyme superoxide dismutase, which is a powerful antioxidant. Another enzyme that copper is important component of is dopamine beta-hydroxylase, an enzyme that helps regulate the metabolism of vitamin C and the synthesis of the neurotransmitter norepinephrine.

Copper can be obtained from a wide variety of foods; however, the typical American diet is low in copper. The best dietary sources oyster and liver, are not eaten frequently, so, it is necessary for most people to obtain their copper from dietary supplements.
